Han Tsutsu-Gata

1 in stock

This wood-fired tea bowl almost made it to our “permanent collection” shelf, but we urged ourselves to make it public. The “Han tsutsu-gata” form refers to its half-cylinder shape. This one features a cascade of nuka glaze inside and out. We can’t help but recall snowy dunes on the beach in this vessel. Comfortably holds 70ml, though we recommend topping off at 55ml to encourage agency and forbearance in all who partake. PLEASE NOTE: This piece has a discernible, lopsided posture. Additionally, this glaze darkens and crazes without delay with each use. It is a natural outcome of your tea practice, and evidences inevitable forces of time and heat. Admittedly some love the aesthetic, and others less so. 4.5 x 7.5 x 7.5cm.
